Stronghold Quartet & The Nelons to perform at Centerpointe Church
Stronghold Quartet invites southern gospel music friends to enjoy The Nelons on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Centerpointe Church, 415 McCarthy, in Howell at 6:00 p.m.  The Nelons are based in Atlanta, Georgia. Group members are: Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason, and their daughters Amber Nelon Thompson and Autumn Clark. The Nelons were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame earlier this year.
The Nelons were started by Kelly’s father, Rex Nelon in 1977, as a spin-off of the Lefevres.  The Lefevres group eventually became the Rex Nelon Singers. Rex Nelon passed away in 2000.  Over the years the group has included Karen Peck, Janet Paschal, Charlotte Ritchie, and Jeff Stice. Rex’s daughter Kelly Nelon Clark has been with the group since its inception, while her husband and daughters joined later.
In 2014, the Nelons were a trio made up Kelly, Jason, and Amber. That year Amber was chosen as Female Vocalist of the Year at the Absolutely Gospel Music Awards in Nashville, TN.
The Nelons have been nominated for many awards in the southern gospel music industry.
Stronghold was organized in 2005 and for about a year sang only at the Howell Church of the Nazarene (now Centerpointe Church). As people from other churches heard them sing, God opened more doors for the group. They now sing extensively in central-Michigan and are home-based in the Howell/ Fowlerville area.
Members include tenor, Don Byers; sharing lead and baritone Dennis Byers and Jim Kitchen; and Bill Neathamer, bass; Dan Dodd is the group’s soundman.  Stronghold endeavors to share a message of encouragement as it brings a testimony of praise for God's love, healing, and grace. They have recorded and released six CD projects to date, including their latest, “Mercy Revealed,” released in April, 2016.
Also performing will be the Byers Trio, made up of Don and Michelle Byers, and Dennis Byers.  They sang at last year’s concert and the audience’s response prompted their return.
Advance tickets (for $12.50) may be ordered by calling Lynn or Diana Webster at 989.723.1288 or 517.304.9292 or Bill Neathamer at 517-223-3334.  For groups of 10, tickets are $10.00 each. Tickets are also available from Alicia Maybee at the Fowlerville United Methodist Church, Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Tickets at the door are $15.00, while student tickets are $5.00.
