Mary Gabrielle (Gay) Spencer, 89 of Howell, passed away peacefully in her home with the support of her family on Sunday, March 15, 2020. Born to John & Herline Dunn in Detroit, Michigan on June 23, 1930. Married Ralph E Spencer in Detroit on June 23, 1956. Moved to Livingston County, Michigan in 1980. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her parents John & Herline and beloved sister Eugenia Dunn.
A devoted and loving mother of 8 children – Susan (Timothy) Hund of Howell, MI, Karen (Michael) Hostnik of The Villages, FL, Mary Spencer Boehne of South Lyon, MI, Patrick (Kathleen) Spencer of Livonia, MI, John (Melinda) Spencer of Howell, MI, Michael (Melissa) Spencer of Howell, MI, Kathleen (Daniel) Boratynski of Fenton, MI and James (Jeanine) Spencer of Howell, MI. Mary is survived by her children, Grandmother of 26, Great Grandmother of 23 and brother Patrick (Sharon) Dunn of Newark, CA.
As a Registered Nurse she worked at Providence and Sinai Hospitals in Detroit, also McPherson Hospital in Howell. Mary cherished her family and all the family times together. Equally important to her was her faith in God through the Catholic Church which gave her comfort, hope, love and forgiveness. Mary was a 40 year member of St. Agnes Church in Fowlerville,MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 18, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Herrmann Funeral Home. Due to health regulations, the funeral service was private to family only on Thursday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family wished to continue the celebration of Mary's life and held a luncheon after the committal service at John and Mindy Spencer's home where they greeted friends.
