Gary Charles Sober
Gary Charles Sober, age 76, longtime Fowlerville resident and friend to many, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020. He was born to Charles Sober and Neva Salmon on June 17, 1943.  He is preceded in death by his parents.
Beloved father to Kelly (Keith) Dotts and Shelly Tyrrell.  Adored grandfather to Deven, Brooke (Adam), Lauren (Brad), Derek and Kiara. He is survived by his sister Cleo Callahan and brother Gale (Shadoe) Sober, both of Howell.  Uncle to Tina, Autumn, Crystal and Wade.
Gary graduated from Hartland High School in 1961 and attended  Flint Community College up until 1967 when he joined the Air Force.  He served out of the Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula until his honorable discharge in 1971.  After the military Gary spent the remainder of his life in Livingston County, primarily in the Fowlerville area.  He was active in the Fowlerville Jaycees in the early 1970s and liked to umpire Little League games in his spare time when he could. He loved playing softball and did so for many years on various teams.
Gary was an avid sports fan.  He was a familiar face to local parents and players alike and a huge supporter of Fowlerville and Webberville sports.  He wore his ‘gold and purple’  with pride  and cheered along with families, whether his grandchildren were playing or not.  He loved his family deeply, but his pride and joy were his grandkids.  He beamed when he spoke of them and bragged every chance he got.  Gary was kind to everyone he met, and his absence will be deeply felt for years to come.
Visitation was being held on Saturday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. at Herrmann Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Tarpley officiating.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Gleaners Food Bank.  Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com
