Bonnie Joy Wylie Slanker
Bonnie Joy Wylie Slanker was born October 6, 1949 and passed away after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer on September 7, 2019. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life open house will be held from 1-5:00 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Webberville Cultural Center, 115 S. Main St., Webberville, MI 48892.      Bonnie was born in Howell MI, the oldest of four children born to Bert and Rose (Neumann) Wylie. Bonnie grew up in rural Livingston County and attended Pinckney schools, graduating from PHS in 1967. After high school she went to work for the State of Michigan, first at the Hillcrest Regional Center for Developmental Disabilities and then at the Michigan School for the Blind.
On December 16, 1972 she married George Slanker. Bonnie and George settled in Webberville MI where they raised their children and a passel of sheep. In 1984 Bonnie achieved her life-long dream of becoming a registered nurse. Above all else, Bonnie was a devoted mother who, despite working full time and going to nursing school, never missed a teacher conference, performance, concert, or game. She dedicated herself to 4-H as both a member and a leader for her children and grandchildren. Bonnie was an avid storyteller, and enjoyed telling the same ones repeatedly so you felt like you lived it yourself. She enjoyed U of M football, MSU basketball and was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers to the very end. Bonnie loved being a grandma and was beyond proud of all her grandchildren, especially because they were better than everyone else’s.
Bonnie is survived by her children Jill (Trent Hull) of Bancroft and Eric Slanker of Charlotte. Her grandchildren Bridget, Gracelyn, and Owen Hull, James Korn, and Allison, Brenden, and Blake Slanker. Sister Janet Wylie of Webberville, brothers William (Carol) and David (Mary) Wylie both of Pinckney. She loved and was loved by numerous nieces and nephews and the many friends she made over the years. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband George, special friend Rex Pierce, niece Michelle Jackman and nephew Nathaniel Wylie.
If you would like to make a donation in Bonnie’s name, please donate to the Hospice House of Shiawassee County or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
