Crossroads Sierra Club presenting program on The Philippines Jan. 17th
The Crossroads Seirra Club is presenting a program on Wednesday Jan. 17, 7pm at the Brighton District Library, 100 Library Drive, Brighton. The program is entitled “A Cultural Experience in The Islands of the Philippines” and will be presented by Dr. Karen Schmitz, Professor of Human Nutrition, Madonna University
As part of a Fulbright-Hays Grant Program, six faculty members and five graduate students from Madonna University spent a month on four different islands of the Philippines learning about the culture, history, sustainability efforts, social programs and food production in The Philippines. This presentation will cover a variety of experiences, including marching with the local police in the Independence Day Parade in Silay, practicing English skills with high school dropouts in Manila, and learning about the various initiatives toward meeting sustainability goals for the island nation.
