 David Floyd Nelson

David Floyd Nelson, age 86, of Fowlerville, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2023. He was surrounded by his family and his loving friend Irene Goforth. David was born on July 18, 1937 to Floyd and Sylvia Nelson, whom preceded him in death, along with his wife, Bonnie, and brother Charles (Chuck).

David married Bonnie Klender on October 27,1956, in Howell, MI, where they lived for many happy years before moving to Fowlerville. They were married for 48 years before she passed away.

David spent his younger years tinkering around his pole barn, working on his many projects. He enjoyed using his talent to design and engineer his ideas to make his tractor and lawnmowers work better. David was able to use that talent for his job in maintenance at the businesses he worked for until his retirement.

He and Bonnie owned a cabin in Leota that gave them many years of pleasure and created special memories for their children and grandchildren.

In later years, he discovered he liked to bake pies and share them with his children. He became known for his excellent pot roast, as well.

David and his friend, Irene were able to spend his last 17 years together enjoying holidays with both families, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and traveling in his motorhome with their beloved dog, Bella. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He made many trips on his golf cart to visit his boys at Nelson’s Collision. He was a funny guy who loved to make people laugh, but don’t get him started on politics. He took pride in his home and loved keeping his property beautiful.

David is survived by his four children, Rick (Lisa) Nelson, Kim (Nick) Converse, Scott (Kim) Nelson, all of Fowlerville and Todd (Diane) Nelson of Perry. He has 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Herrmann Funeral Home, 1005 E. Grand River, Fowlerville, on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 10:00 – 12:00, with a service from 12:00 – 1:00. Luncheon to follow at the Recreation Hall behind St. Agnes Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society or charity of your choice.
