John E. Matthews

John (Jack) E. Matthews, age 88 of Perry, Michigan, passed away on December 25, 2019. He was born on November 6, 1931 in Petoskey, Michigan to Cecile and Eva Matthews. Jack was a die-hard Spartan fan although watching any football game was a favorite pastime. He also loved gardening and would often share his fruits and vegetables with friends and neighbors. Jack was a Veteran of the Korean War. As a young man Jack worked as a farmer, then later as an Insurance Agent for New York Life Insurance Co. for over 50 years. He had interests in the saddle and tack industry, property development and golf course ownership.
Jack will be forever missed by his wife: Cheryl; sons and their spouses: Mark and Amy Matthews of Grand Haven, Steve and Julie Matthews of Petoskey, James Matthews of East Jordan; one sister, Ruth Hoffman of Petoskey; two step-children and their spouses: Stacey and Joe Karsnick, Andrew and Lisa Crowell; step-son-in-law: Rodney Page. 10 grandchildren: Taylor and Karl Schulz, John (Jack) Matthews, Scott, Lucas, Eva, Chase and Kim Matthews, Chelsea and Cameron Collar; and several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph Morrow; sister, Helen Locke; and brother, Bruce Morrow and one step-daughter, Kelly Page. Private family services will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Herrmann Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at pjherrmannfuneralhome.com
